EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION ACTIVITIES

AM-IIW Examination:

AM-IIW Examination system is being re-introduced in a new format by The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India), which includes theory papers, project work, practical and viva voce. Successful candidates passing the AM-IIW Examination will be eligible to become Associate Member of The Indian Institute of Welding and will also be eligible for becoming a ‘National Welding Engineer’.

International Qualification:

IIW-India is the only Authorised Nominated Body of the International Institute of Welding in India (ANB-India) for awarding the International Diplomas to welding personnel at various level, which are globally recognised and accepted. Courses offered following the requirements of International Authorisation Body (IAB) guidelines (Competency as per ISO 14731) are:

  1. International Welding Engineer (IWE): Through Standard, Alternate and Transition routes
  2. International Welding Technologist (IWT): Through Standard, Alternate and Transition routes
  3. International Welding Specialist (IWS): Through Transition and Standard routes
  4. International Welding Practitioner (IWP): Through Transition and Standard routes
  5. International Welder (IW): Through Standard and Transition Routes

Company Certification:

IIW-India is the only Authorised Nominated Body for Company Certification of the International Institute of Welding in India (ANBCC-India) for certification of organisations in accordance with ISO 3834. Many organisations have acquired ISO 9001 certification with respect to their quality management systems, but where significant use is made of a special process like welding, such certification is unlikely to provide the required demonstration of company capability to manufacture products with the required product quality. In such cases compliance to ISO 3834 is the recommended solution. Also, ANBCC-India is authorised for auditing organisations in accordance with EN 15085 & EN 1090 in collaboration with IIS Cert, Italy.

National Welding Training & Certification Scheme:

IIW-India’s National Welding Training and Certification Scheme (NWTCS) has been prepared to meet the demand of industry for welders, trained and certified to a level of competency commensurate with the requirements of any of the welder qualification and certification standards or codes i.e., IS:7310, IBR, ISO:9606‐1, ASME Sec IX, AWS D1.1 etc. The scheme is specifically designed for large number of pre-school leaving candidates and dropouts who are unable to continue with formal education and provides an opportunity to build alternative careers. NWTCS will make the qualified welders better acceptable to industry all over India. The Scheme is open for different welding processes for the following levels:

  1. Foundation schemes
  2. Industry oriented special schemes
  3. Special scheme for expert welders

National Welding Inspectors’ Certification Scheme:

National Welding Inspectors’ Certification Scheme (NWICS) of IIW-India is a comprehensive scheme, which provides for examination and certification of personnel seeking to demonstrate their competence and knowledge in the field of welding inspection. The scheme is specifically designed both for new entrants to fabrication industry and for large number of experienced candidates who are conducting welding inspection functions without any formal recognition of their ability. IIW-India operates NWICS, which has been prepared to meet the industries’ demand for certified welding inspectors in compliance with the requirements of IS 18224:2023 at three (3) levels:

  1. Certified Welding Inspector – Basic (CWI-B)
  2. Certified Welding Inspector – Standard (CWI-S)
  3. Certified Welding Inspector – Advanced (CWI-A)

Personnel Certification and Assessment:

IIW-India is also engaged in:

  1. Qualification of Welders as per IS, ISO, ASME and AWS Standards
  2. Certification of Welding Instructors
  3. Assessment under various Government Schemes

WELDING RESEARCH FOUNDATION

In line with its professed philosophy ‘Welding for Nation Building’, IIW-India has established IIW-India Foundation for furthering the cause of welding science and research. It is and inter-disciplinary body funded by the fabrication and construction industries, welding products manufacturers, steel and non-ferrous metal manufacturers and Government bodies. The main objectives of IIW-India Foundation are:

  • To encourage research in the field of welding, cutting and joining aligned to the requirements of the industry after assessing the anticipated needs.
  • To identify academic and research institutes which can provide such environment.
  • To support different sectors through National Welding Capability mission.
