The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) is a national level professional body of welding fraternity devoted to the promotion and advancement of welding science & technology. It was established on 22nd April 1966, with its registered office at Kolkata. It has 14 branches, and several Students’ Chapters spread all over India. It has more than 4500 members including around 150 industries as Industrial Corporate Members. IIW-India publishes ‘Indian Welding Journal’ quarterly, which has technical research papers of high standards with a separate section of AWS (American Welding Society).
The Institute is the Responsible Member Society of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and has acquired the status of Authorised Nominated Body (ANB) to award globally recognised professional Diplomas such as IWE (International Welding Engineer), IWT (International Welding Technologist), IWS (International Welding Specialist), IW (International Welder) etc. Also acquired the status of Authorised Nominated Body for Company Certification (ANBCC) to certify Industries as per ISO 3834. IIW-India also conducts its own Welder certification programme, under National Welding Training & Certification Scheme (NWTCS), Welding Inspectors’ certification programme under National Welding Inspectors’ Certification Scheme (NWICS) and AM-IIW Examination awarding ‘National Welding Engineer’ certification.
The institute is engaged in various skill development activities by its own and as the Assessing Body under Directorate General of Training (DGT), Sector Skill Councils and NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) for various Government schemes. The Institute supports industry through upskilling of Welders and Welding Engineers with industry driven certification programmes. To encourage the welders and welding engineers, IIW-India conducts different skill competitions free of costs.
Apart from the Member in Board of Directors of the International Institute of Welding, IIW-India is a Governing Council Member of Asian Welding Federation (AWF) since its inception, Member in Board of Directors of Indian Iron & Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) since its inception and a member of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The Indian Institute of Welding is continuously serving the country and the welding fraternity as a whole with a motto ‘Welding for Nation Building’!
